Ages 12–18
The Secondary Education program is offered in a hybrid format, combining both online and in-person instruction. Students use the ‘Nieuw Nederlands’ curriculum, which is specifically designed for online learning and allows students to work at their own level. The program covers all key language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing; through engaging, theme-based lessons.
Our goal is to provide graduates of our primary program, as well as other Dutch and Flemish students, with the opportunity to continue developing their Dutch language skills, remain actively connected to the Dutch-speaking community, and prepare for the CNaVT (Certificate of Dutch as a Foreign Language) examination and/or the ALTA language proficiency assessment.
Students who plan to pursue higher education in the Netherlands or Belgium are generally required to demonstrate proficiency in Dutch through an officially recognized language certificate, such as the CNaVT or the NT2 (Dutch as a Second Language) qualification.
Students may also choose to prepare for the ALTA language assessment. This exam measures proficiency in a foreign language and, depending on the policies of their high school, may qualify students for world language credits or exemptions from foreign language course requirements.
Online classes are held on a weekday afternoon or evening, while in-person classes take place on Saturdays, alongside the Primary Education program.
